My story

Yoga is a practice that cultivates awareness of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual state which can improve and develop breath and strength of mind and body. I have been practising yoga for over 10 years and it has been integral to my own health and has aided management of my own physical illness by encouraging me to work ‘with’ my body and mind holistically bringing the physical and emotional body into balance.

Having worked in the Children’s social care sector for over 20 years, I felt I needed a change in direction. I reflected on how over the span of my career, I had come across so many organisations, parents and carers looking for therapeutic support for their child, who had then struggled to access services due to a number of reasons, including service closures or the child not meeting the required criteria. These children were often in a state of limbo and their parents / carers unsure of where to go next.

By chance I stumbled across an article for a yoga therapy course, and I knew immediately this is what I had been looking for. At the time I wasn’t sure how it would work, but my gut instinct told me it was a path I had to take, and I knew I had a chance to make a real difference. In-class and independent study followed, with case studies and academic assignments, my love for what I was learning grew and I sought after additional training, accumulating over 700 hours. Calming Tree Yoga and Yoga Therapy was created, and I look forward to the next chapter – which I hope to share with you.

My learning journey

It is my belief that in order for me to offer a quality service it is vital that I continue to deepen my knowledge, and practice good self-care for myself. Therefore, I continue my own yoga practice in addition to attending regular clinical supervision, maintaining a network of peer support with other yoga therapists, and attending yoga therapy myself.

I enjoy deepening my learning for yoga philosophy and discovering how it aligns with my interest in human behaviour and psychology.

I am also a registered therapist with ACCPH, an independent professional body and register for counsellors, coaches, psychotherapists and hypnotherapists, in addition to being registered with Complementary Therapists' Association (CThA).
